Spanish Airport Workers Cancels Strike, Holiday makers breath a sigh of releif

17/03/2011 by Kevincm

For holiday makers, there is a collective sigh of relief as Aena – the operator of Spanish Airports has reached a preliminary agreement with the local trade unions, which was leading to major strike action.

Had the strike action gone ahead a total of 22 days with 12,500 staff would had gone out on strike, hitting the critical Easter period. The action was called in protest over privatisation plans for some Spanish airports.

There are agreements now in place to include protection of staff numbers employed by both Aena and private operators when they appear.

So if you’re planing to head off for sunny Spain in the Easter Holidays, you can toddle off now without a care in the world.

Unless the agreement isn’t upheld by either side…
