Well, not surprsingly, the proposed new “Heathrow AirTrack” Link has been shelved, due to a mix of objections from the community, but mainly due to a lack of hard cash.
The route which would had connected Reading, Guildford and London Waterloo up to Heathrow Airport.
The objections from the community came from the amount of level crossings that would come into use (as building tunnels and bridges is a very expensive business). BAA has had trouble developing solutions to this, as barriers need to be down for time before and after a train passes. This in turn causes delays.
Lots of them.
Therefore another opportunity to connect the south of Heathrow is lost for a while, and the focus now turns to CrossRail to provide a cross-city link for Heathrow Airport.
And they’d better not mess that up as construction is continuing apace with that – look at the mess that is Tottenham Court Road….
