The plan to freely allow large liquids for duty free through has fallen through due to the fragmented approach of EU member countries to get their fingers out – in the name of security.
As a result, the ban on liquids purchased in third countries, originally scheduled to be lifted on 29 April, will remain for the time being.
The decision was made to avoid confusion for passengers that would result from a failure to lift the restrictions simultaneously across all states. Whilst the EU remains positive the ban will be lifted soon – from a few weeks to a few months, I wouldn’t hold out hope.
Welcome to farce central.
Various countries have reported things, but those who were against the ban lifted were France, Italy and the UK, whilst Germany and The Scandianvia countries were ready.
If or not this will affect the 2013 deadline of removing all madness of liquid screening is besides the point….
