For starters, Southend is nowhere near London – it’s about 50 minutes to an hour away – then again how Seoul Inchon and Toyko Narita can claim the same is beyond me…
But EasyJet sees some value in this little outpost in the heartlands of White Stilettos, by opening a base there in April 2012.
Three Airbus A319’s are to be based at the site, operating 70 flights on 10 routes. Barcelona, Faro and Ibiza show up in the first wave of flights, with tickets and other destinations to be announced at the end of July.
EasyJet are estimating up to 800,000 passengers to flow through in the first year. And it seems EasyJet are there for a period, with a 10 year agreement signed with the owners of the airport.
Southend Airport is also served by Aer Arren (semi-regular) and FlyBe (seasonally).
