Tiger Airways Australia remains grounded for Australian domestic departures following the intervention of the CASA on Saturday.
Tiger are holding talks with the CASA to try and get back in the air, but these are bearing no fruit as of yet.
Or to put in the CASA’s words:
“CASA believes permitting the airline to continue to fly poses a serious and imminent risk to air safety”
Ouch.
Tiger Chief Executive Tony Davis has flown to Australia for talks, with the aim of getting Tiger’s fleet of 10 A320’s back in the air.
Estimates from Tiger Airlines Holdings indicate for each week the airline is grounded, around $1.6 to 2.0 Million Singapore Dollars is lost – which is a lot of money in anyone’s book.
So if you’re trapped thanks to Tiger Airways Australia, what can you do? Thankfully all 3 major operators have responded:
Jetstar have loaded special fares http://www.jetstar.com/au/en/travel-alerts
Virgin Australia have loaded special fares- http://www.virginaustralia.com/servicedisruption/index.htm,
Qantas has guidance and fares – http://www.qantas.com.au/travel/airlines/disruptions/global/en
All operators will require you to contact them directly as space is tight over the Austrailian holiday season, and no one are selling recovery fares online. Note that Tiger Airways Singapore (who operate services between Australia and Singapore as well is the South East Asia region) are unaffected by this action by the CASA.
Good luck if you’re stuck. GhettoIFE.com will keep an eye on from the other side of the world….
