Stelios’s Fastjet… Long Haul Ambitions…

03/10/2011 by Kevincm

The Sunday Telegraph has managed to talk to Sir Stelios about his plans for FastJet.

According to the peice, FastJet will take on the Long Haul flights as oppsed competing on the short-haul EuroRoutes.

The name Fastjet is however a holding name for the project. The name “Stelios” is being banded around as a brand.

Meanwhile the rumbling fight that is brewing between Sir Stelios and EasyJet (of which Stelios’s family owns 37.4%), of which EasyJet may seek a high court injunction to stop Stelios doing what he does best.

The skies are alas littered with Long Haul Startups (in particular, EOS, MaxJet, Zoom), but it seems the time is right for investors to try again (with Singapore Airlines LCC starting up, Air Asia X giving it a good go). However, for those long haul flights, making savings on “dead time” on the ground is going to tough work.

Can they make it work? I’m honestly not sure.
