ORD XI: 6am already? But WHY do people hate Hyatt’s White Ginger?

24/10/2011 by Kevincm

Well I’m preparing to break camp after a good weekend in Chicago, and I’ll have a review of the Hyatt Regency O’Hare a  bit later (Key points – don’t carry your room key next to your phone or you’ll be stuck waiting 30 minutes to be let back into it, and avoid the King Rooms)

But as I’m off to DC for a bit, then off home it’s time for me to open up a point of contention and a question –

My important question of the day is this: Why do people mostly hate the White Ginger smellies they have at Hyatt Regency’s???

Personally – I’m one of the few people I think who actually like it…

Comments box below – feel free to vent and spleen!

Ok – My take. Maybe I’m too used to Holiday Inn Expresses/Travellodge soap in a tube thing, but I must be defective as one of the few people who like the smell. Also I do like the soap bars most of all.

Yes, I am sad. And yes, the stuff in the IC Toronto-Yorkville was probably better. Maybe I’ve got an odd soft spot for it….

I love it, too, and have kept a stash going for years.

The soap lathers nicely. But the stuff sinks. And not in a good way. I don’t feel especially clean after using it, and it’s not a pleasant, soothing smell. Count me as one of the folks who now proactively ask if a hotel has Quince & Bergamot products that they can substitute (HT: pizzaman).

I’m with Gary. The Quince & Bergamot is the first soap I’ve ever wanted to take home with me. And I do! As a diamond I typically get a VIP room already having the soap, but if not, the request is part of my check-in precedure.

I like it, too. Reminds me of Hawaii.

I like the round nubbies on the bath bar. Never really thought about the fragrance until I saw some folks on blogs complaining. Guess I’m “fragrance neutral” but otherwise I like it.

I don’t hate the scent, I hate the quality. ESPECIALLY the “massage bar,” which you get instead of hand cream. When you use it, your skin gets even more dry, rather than softer. Just what I need when traveling…

I do love the free toothpastes at most Hyatt Places, has stocked me up for months of travel!

My wife complains every time I wash with the white ginger soap. She can’t stand the smell.

And I thought I was the only one! Man, I hate that smell. I have been bringing my own when staying at Hyatts. The soap is good quality, just the fragrance is overpowering.

I first smelled that soap and thought: White ginger is a kind of … salami?
