It seems Malaysia Airlines is trying new ideas to boost income and profits, with the announcement today of the creation of a new regional premium carrier by the second half of 2012.
The carrier will be operating key business routes out of Kuala Lumpur within a 4 hour range, connecting Malaysia to core cities in South Asia and Greater China in the first instance ,with it eventually serving all Malaysian Domestic Routes and all “Regional Routes”, leaving Air Asia to pick up the Low cost traffic, and Malaysia Airlines to operate the long haul traffic
The airline hasn’t been named yet, but has been confirmed to be operating a fleet of all new Boeing 737-800’s.
How this will fit into the OneWorld accession plans has not been disclosed.
