Low cost carriers – you’ve got to hate them. EasyJet comes high on the list of companies that need a clue distributed to them (although regular readers of this blog know where my venom usually lies when it comes to Low Cost Carriers) – although EasyJet comes high on the list after today’s announcement.
The “Debit/Credit Card” fee has been axed. But before you cheer, it’s been replaced with an “Administration Fee”. Anyone else smell a skunk here?
Previously, it was £8 to use any card except a Visa Electron, with a 2.5% surcharge on top to use a credit card.
Now it has changed to £9 “Administration Fee” per booking, no charges for any debit card, and 2.5% surcharge for credit card.
The fee of course, is invisible until you actually select your flights.
Oh. And that 2.5% Credit Card fee? That’s also a a minimum charge of £4.95 too.
So it seems EasyJet is on the take AGAIN, making it less economical to use if want single segment flights. Those booking groups and return segments a bit cheaper as it’s a single fee (+ whatever credit card fee you have to pay). In addition, it seems this is a manoeuvre to outdo the British Government on its planned clampdown on excessive booking fees when paying by Debit or Credit Card.
Wonderful. Expect all the other LCC’s and probably most of the EU carriers to follow in line sooner rather than later.
