China Airlines throws in the towel on London Taipei direct services – retreats to Amsterdam

20/01/2012 by Kevincm

China Airlines can’t seem to make the London – Taipei services work it seems, and has thrown in the towel on the twice a week service.

From 25th March 2012 onwards, it will switch to a codeshare with SkyTeam partner KLM to Amsterdam, to connect with the existing Amsterdam – Bangkok – Taipei service.

So if you want to get to Taipei, yes – it’s TWO stops to get there with China Airlines.

China Airlines blame the high oil prices and the European debt crises which have hit the profitability of the London – Taipei service (operated with Airbus A340 equipment).

Bookings reopen with the KLM codeshares from 15th February, and those due to travel to London<>Taipei from 25th  March will be rebooked via either Amsterdam, Frankfurt or Vienna, with the pain of sorting the connection back to/from London.

Eva Air continues to operate its 1-stop London – Bangkok – Taipei service.
