China Airlines can’t seem to make the London – Taipei services work it seems, and has thrown in the towel on the twice a week service.
From 25th March 2012 onwards, it will switch to a codeshare with SkyTeam partner KLM to Amsterdam, to connect with the existing Amsterdam – Bangkok – Taipei service.
So if you want to get to Taipei, yes – it’s TWO stops to get there with China Airlines.
China Airlines blame the high oil prices and the European debt crises which have hit the profitability of the London – Taipei service (operated with Airbus A340 equipment).
Bookings reopen with the KLM codeshares from 15th February, and those due to travel to London<>Taipei from 25th March will be rebooked via either Amsterdam, Frankfurt or Vienna, with the pain of sorting the connection back to/from London.
Eva Air continues to operate its 1-stop London – Bangkok – Taipei service.
