It seems the PR bunnies over at Virgin Atlantic are working overtime with a £100 Million investment in its Upper Class Product (Business Class Equivalent).
The upgrade to take place over three years will feature:
- An “enhanced” seat
- A “futurist” bar
- Revised Upper Class menus
- Other Cabin Upgrades
- An updated Clubhouse at JKF – which is believed to be air-side.
The new product will roll out first on new Airbus A330-300 aircraft (the ones based out of LHR will be 3-class – Economy, Premium Economy and Upper Class as opposed to the ones based out of MAN which have 2 class product – Economy and Premium Economy)
Of note, the improved Upper Class Meal service, new menus, new cocktails, new salt and pepper shakers, snack services and for those who love cheese, a cheeseboard will feature as shown by this lovely picture for those of you on West Coast Routes.

For those of you where an afternoon tea service is in the picture, that’s covered too.
Breakfast service varies depending on the flight, from a Full English to an Express Service.
Well, it’s good to see some investment in the product. But Virgin Atlantic still as has a bit of “Style over Substance” over it in my humble view… and this goes into that line perfectly.
As usual, the challenge will be the staff, and making sure the staff can deliver the soft product. I’ve had my share of flights where the hard product (seat) was acceptable, but the soft product was awful. Similarly, I’ve had a few flights where the hard product was passable, but the crew made the flight.
Interesting times ahead.
