Lion Air confirms itself as the 737-9MAX launch customer

14/02/2012 by Kevincm

Well it seems Lion Air is on the march, with another order lodged at Boeing’s front door at the Singapore Air Show.

Lion Air of Indonesia has confirmed with Boeing and placed a firm order for 201 of the re-engineered Boeing 737-9 (MAX) series, with an additional order 29 Boeing 737-900ER’s.

Lion Air were first to launch the 737-900ER, so it seems fitting they’re first to also launch the 737-9MAX into service.

In addition to these purchases, rights to purchase an additional 150 aircraft have been secured.

The growth of the 737-MAX project is starting to take pace with big carriers staking their future fleets around it such as Lion Air, Southwest Airlines, American and Norwegian as carriers seek to gain better efficiencies from their fleets, and the cost to power them.

If it translates to a discount in our pockets is – of course – a completely separate subject….
