Power cut at Gatwick – baggage all over the place

10/03/2012 by Kevincm

It seems there was a major outage at London Gatwick this morning.

At 03:30GMT, there was a power cut that has hit the luggage carousels in the North Terminal at Gatwick. In turn this has caused flights to leave the airport without baggage.

The belts begun working at 10:30GMT, with extra staff called in to sort the baggage manually.

In some cases, baggage has not been loaded, with baggage to be forwarded later. With an estimated 21,800 passengers due through, and luggage systems out for the best part of 7 hours – that’s a substantial amount of time that systems are out.

If you’re going through, expect delays and problems to continue. If you’ve been caught in this, moan at your airline who should sort the forwarding of luggage onto where you are.
