British Airways gets the final nod from Russian Authorities to run 747’s…

28/03/2012 by Kevincm

News from British Airways who have gained approval to fly a Boeing 747-400 on its London (LHR)-Moscow Domodedovo (DME) route

This was just two days before the first scheduled flight began Sunday.

Transaero seems to be at the heart of this dispute who wished to operate larger capacity aircraft on this route (they currently operate narrowbody aircraft), and wished to operate 747/777 aircraft on the LHR-DME run. It seems that offering this capacity over the 2012 Olympics has been the key to unlock this, and thus Transaero has dropped its objections.

British Airways has switched the aircrraft types from shorthaul A320’s and ShortHaul 767’s to a 747-400 (operating once a day in four class configuration), and 767’s in three class configuration.
