Spanish General strike – Cancellations ahead.

28/03/2012 by Kevincm

Well it seems there is chaos is Spain with a General Strike being called, and lets face it – this is not pretty in the least.

The strike is being called due to the new conservative government’s labour reforms and austerity cuts, and every part of Spanish life is being hit – including airports and air traffic control.

As a result, there are major cancellations tomorrow.

If you are going anywhere near Spain, contact your carrier for re-booking information.

A short list from a UK Perspective:

  • Ryanair has cancelled flights from East Midlands, Liverpool, Stansted and Manchester to Ibiza, Liverpool to Barcelona, Luton to Reus, and Liverpool to Palma – http://www.ryanair.com/en/notices/gops/120327-Strike_Spain_EN-GB
  • EasyJet have cancelled flights from Stansted and Malaga, Gatwick and Madrid, and Gatwick and Barcelona. http://easyjet.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/3970
  • British Airways is planning on operating a service, however you are advised to check. Rebooking is open already. http://www.britishairways.com/travel/flightops/public/en_gb?p_faqid=4398
  • And Iberia. It’s bad. Head to http://www.iberia.com/ and follow the links – three PDF’s full of cancellations

So if you’re heading to Spain tomorrow (29th March)… don’t unless you must be there. There’s a good chance the carriers won’t make it there…..

Not sure. Looks clear at the moment, but knowing the wildcat nature of things – anything could happen.
