BMI updates Facebook post – more of the future revealed…

06/04/2012 by Kevincm

Well it seems the end is drawing nearer and nearer.. and on the BMI FaceBook page, an FAQ has been posted.

What do we learn from it though?

  • BMI state the intended date from exiting Star Alliance will be to be around 20 April, 2012.
  • BMI, Lufthansa and Star Alliance will be working together to ensure a smooth exit that doesn’t leave everyone in the hole.
  • Diamond Club earnings continue as normal for now
  • Summer 2012 timetable remains as schedule
  • Redemptions will be honoured as is (and from the looks of it – up the the 20th April deadline)
  • Some Diamond Club benefits will still be applicable to Star Alliance even after the exit for “a certain amount of time”. What those are, who can only guess. I’d presume some lounge access and priority luggage handling will feature.  How long… well I’m going to speculate here, but end of Summer 2012 timetable feels around right…
  • Diamond Club will have a partnership with British Airways… although what sort and redemption rates have not been disclosed. Similarly, nothing is mentioned of Oneworld redemptions… yet.

The advice remains the same:

IF YOU WANT TO REDEEM MILES, YOU’VE GOT UNTIL 20th APRIL TO USE THEM FOR STAR ALLIANCE FLIGHTS.

SO REDEEM THEM NOW!

and remember cash and miles bookings can be made to extend your miles… but do it quick!
