Scoot scoots its start date, confirms timetable, first destinations

19/04/2012 by Kevincm

Singapore Airlines offshoot Scoot has confirmed its first routes, timetables… and has shifted its start date by a three weeks… upward.

Commencement of services will be 4th June 2012 (from 26th June 2012), operating to Sydney (Daily) and The Gold Coast (5 times a week), Australia.

Singapore – Sydney

OQ002 DEPART SIN 02:10    ARRIVE SYD 11:40
OQ001 DEPART SYD 12:50    ARRIVE SIN 19:00

Booked Equipment: Boeing 777-200 "Scoot Configuration"
Operates Daily.

Singapore – Gold Coast

OQ006  DEPART SIN 22:25    ARRIVE OOL 0750+1  *1
OQ005  DEPART OOL 09:00    ARRIVE SIN 15:00   *2

Booked Equipment: Boeing 777-200 "Scoot Configuration"
* 1 = Operates Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Sunday
* 2 = Operates Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday

Now, here’s the kicker, whilst Scoot separates their service into four classes of product (Fly, FlyBag, FlyBagEat and ScootBiz , it’s actually two when you boil it down – Economy (with or without dressings) and Business.

  • Economy class seats will be a 31″ seat pitch, but the 777 will be crammed into a 3-4-3 layout.
  • Business class seats will be in a 38″ seat pitch, and configured in an equally tight 2-4-2 layout.

If you want to Scoot along at a lowish cost, head to www.flyscoot.com to get your tickets. Just be well limbered up for the challenge of getting in one of those economy class seats…

      I’ve had a quick look and here’s what I’ve found. Based on a departure of 4/JUL/2012, returning 8/JUL2012 from SIN to SYD, the following prices come up:

      Fly = $548.54
      FlyBag = $604.54
      FlyBagEat = $638.54
      Scoot Biz = $1,273.54
      (Data: FlyScoot.com)

      Compared to:

      Qantas Y = $884
      BA/Qantas Y = $885 (Codeshare)
      Singapore Y = $1,161
      (Data: matrix.itasoftware.com)

      All prices in Singapore Dollars.

      Some savings to be had… but shop around as usual…
