Poll: In Flight Mobile Phone Use – What’s your view?

19/05/2012 by Kevincm

It’s time for something different at GhettoIFE – a poll!

Earlier this week I wrote about Virgin Atlantic introducing full Mobile Communications on-board their new 3-class Airbus A330’s, and the comments were not that favourable.

Full in this case is defined as Voice, SMS and Data.  Yes – you will be able to make and receive calls whilst in the air.

So my question is this:

Would you talk in the air on your mobile phone?

  • No, but can I ducktape the person with their beloved mobile phone to the wing please? (44%, 48 Votes)
  • Only if it was an absolute emergency... (26%, 29 Votes)
  • No... Not at all. (12%, 13 Votes)
  • Yes, if it wouldn't bankrupt me... (10%, 11 Votes)
  • Of course, I'm an executive. Don't you know who I am? (3%, 3 Votes)
  • Yes, but I'd have the common decency to take my call away from my seat (3%, 3 Votes)
  • No, I'd be asking the flight attendant for decent ear plugs... (3%, 3 Votes)

Total Voters: 110

Polling ends: 26/05/2012 08:00.

I’m sure you can guess my feelings on this subject but I want your thoughts too. Any other comments, in the box below please!

And yes, I’ll be doing some analysis afterwards.

I voted “ICE” with “emergency” as in the haunting 9/11 calls. Not “emergency” as in “I’ve got to call Sue to remind her we didn’t buy a gift for tomorrow’s wedding.”

    Some people have difficulty discerning…

Fights will break out if they allow people to use phones on the plane. Some people are so inconsiderate; I can’t bear the thought of being next to someone on a 5 hour flight if I have to listen to them yelling into their cell phone.

I was on the Caltrain yesterday going from San Francisco to San Mateo. This is a mere 33 minute ride. The guy behind me talked the whole way. I kept thinking if they allow phones on planes…
I fly almost every week from the midwest to the west coast and back again. There is not enough pain medication in the world to take away the agony of listening to inconsiderate people talk nonsence for 4-1/2 hours. Air travel is difficult at best these days and this would increase the misery scale.
