Planning a BMI Star Alliance redemption? Don’t bother

29/05/2012 by Kevincm

Seriously, I wouldn’t bother right now making that Star Alliance redemption now.

And this is the advice I’m now offering due to a lot of factors now coming together:

  • Turkish Airlines were the first to pull their inventory
  • LOT were close behind pulling their inventory
  • And now reports of Singapore Airlines also pulling their seats

Whilst it isn’t too late to make a redemption (there should JUST be enough time if you ring tomorrow to pay and get it e-ticketed), the selection to book on Star Alliance metal is getting thinner by the hour.

If truth be known, if other airlines don’t pull their inventory during the 30th, I’d be amazed.

Whilst you can moan that it’s a Star Alliance redemption, the fact is that BMI is no longer a member of the Star Alliance, and the transitional arrangements will end very shortly. And you’ve had since the 31st March, the 23rd April and a last warning from me on the 21st May to get those redemptions in.

So really – the BMI redemption boat has sailed in my humble opinion. If you get anything tomorrow that’s remotely Star Alliance based… consider yourself lucky.

And get ready for Avios.

Thanks BMI Diamond Club – I’ve had two great trips out of you as well as the friendship of forums and others 🙂
