What’s in… the Turkish Airlines Status Kit?

05/06/2012 by Kevincm

As a lot of you know, BMI has left Star Alliance. Now whilst I matched to Lufthansa Miles and More Senator, lets be blunt – unless I’m extremely creative 100,000 miles to re-qualify for SEN is going to be an impossibility.

So I have to look to other possibilities – and Aegean and Turkish Airlines seem to be matching BMI status for status. Although Aegean has a lower qualifying requirement some of the Economy Class fares don’t earn a lot (or nothing at all) when credited to that airline. Turkish on the other hand will credit at 100%.

Considering my policy of “Earn at the back, burn at the front” and that “every mile counts”, it was a no-brainer for me to select Turkish Airlines.

A few days ago, an unassuming plastic covered envelop popped through the door, and this is what I got…

a book on a table

Lets rip open plastic and see what’s inside

a box with a couple of items in it

Well lookie here. There’s nice open wallet here with a welcome letter, luggage tags and more importantly, a Star Alliance Gold card. in here – the useful bit!

a close up of a card

Welcome letter and card – Personal details redacted 😉

a paper with a name tag

Welcome Letter

a pair of cards with straps

Luggage tags (yes, I’m a sucker for shiny luggage tags).

Looking at the kit – whilst small say to the box I got mailed by BMI each year – it contains the things I need and want (namely the Star Alliance Gold card).

Not a bad effort there Turkish Airlines. I like what I see.

How did you manage getting matched to Senator?

Through a match with Flying Blue, who I had a cascaded match from Continental Airlines.

It was “Show your current status with Flying Blue, fly 2 segments, get SEN”. Not a bad deal…

Did you get SEN thru the Flying Blue route last year?

Yup. I got SEN with the Flying Blue match in http://economyclassandbeyond.boardingarea.com/2011/05/30/sen-for-128-20-bhx-zrh-bcn-zrh-bhx-with-swiss-and-helvetic/

      So yes, I’m a SEN-Lite 😉

Whilst I’ll probably drop to FTL which is more achievable on my flying patterns, but in reality FTL doesn’t hold much attraction for me when I’m carting 2 x 32Kg bags over the pond…
