Middle East Airlines of Lebanon today has been accepted formally into the SkyTeam alliance as its 17th member, and for SkyTeam, its second member in the Middle East.
MEA is based out of Beirut, and operate a fleet of 17 aircraft (Airbus A320’s, Airbus A321 and Airbus A330), flying to 31 destinations in Middle East, Europe, and West Africa.
Prior to joining, the carrier launched a restructuring project that included fleet renewal and rationalisation, network expansion and enhancing product quality.
MEA customers are now able to redeem and earn miles on all SkyTeam airlines – whilst Cedar Miles Elites should be able to access SkyTeam member lounges as appropriate to their member level. Similarly, members of other SkyTeam airlines will be allowed to earn and burn, with elites able to access premium facilities as specified in their shiny bits of plastic.
There are plenty more airlines still to grab in the Middle East for the big three alliances, but the big three airlines in the region (Emirates, Etihad and Qatar) have yet to show a major interest in joining an alliance rather than “just be a partner…”

Interestingly enough you will find NO mention of MEA on Delta.com…even worse…no mentioned of Saudi Arabian Airlines (Saudia) either…and they joined SkyTeam A MONTH ago!
