The BMI Diamond Club to British Airways Executive Avios transfer tool is now open (as advertised in an email from Donnington Hall):
Now I’ve copy and pasted a bit out of it as it’s important (embolding mine)
“As part of the bmi integration, British Airways is offering Diamond Club members the opportunity to transfer destinations miles to Avios at a rate of 1:1. We’re delighted to announce that the new tool, which allows you to transfer destinations miles, is now live.
Using the transfer tool.
You can transfer your destinations miles to Avios at a rate of 1:1. To do so simply log in to your Executive Club account and go to the ‘Manage My Account’ page. Here you’ll find a link to the ‘Combine My Avios’ tool under the ‘Your options’ section.
Before you start a transfer please ensure that your contact details, including your name, email address and date of birth, are up-to-date in both your Diamond Club and Executive Club accounts. Transfers can be made between individual accounts, but unfortunately transfers into Household Account balances are not possible.“
This is something I was semi aware of yesterday, but it’s important to point out.
For those of you who looked at the blog yesterday, you would had found that I had published a step by step guide on how to do the transfer as the options are in a rather obscure place on the BA Account page. Head to http://economyclassandbeyond.boardingarea.com/2012/07/02/a-guide-to-migrating-your-bmi-diamond-club-to-british-airways-avios/.
I’ve had some reports that the site is slow, and it is taking multiple attempts to get the destination miles over into Avios. I’d try over the next few days as the first rush of people will have done it by then.
For reference, I did my transfer yesterday, and the Avios hit account on the same day. The BMI Statement updated today with two debit transactions for miles.
It’s worth also pointing out that this is a ONE WAY TRANSFER – you can only transfer from Diamond Club to BA Executive Club and not the other way round. As such, if you have plans to redeem on Virgin Atlantic, Qatar, Transareo and Jet Airways, I’d hang onto your miles in Diamond Club until you’re sure that you’ve 1) spent them or 2) don’t need them there.
Happy transferring!
