GhettoIFE presents: Farnborough 2012 Coverage

05/07/2012 by Kevincm

It’s coming up to that time of year where aviation companies, aircraft buyers and anything to do with aviation converges at Farnborough air field for a display, a show off and of course – lots of deals to be signed.

It can only be Farnborough 2012.

Alas, my press accreditation didn’t come through, and as no nice aircraft manufacturer has sponsored me a ticket, I’ll be reporting from the sidelines.

As usual (for those still new to GhettoIFE) I’ll be covering the civil/commercial aviation headlines, with news of who has brought what aircraft, what innovations in IFE there are, and the usual madness that is the Farnborough week.

Looking around, there’s plenty to look forward to this Farnborough:

  • The battle of the Narrow body NextGen market – Airbus A320neo vs Boeing 737 MAX – who will get the lions share?
  • The A350XWB… what updates will we get?
  • Bombardier C Series… will it make the impact it wants to make?
  • The Chinese COMAC C919 – how it hopes it will change the landscape?
  • And of course, who will make big orders that will hit during the week?

I’ll be filing updates via Twitter (@GhettoIFE) during the day, a few big updates during the day if someone orders a fleetload of aircraft and have an “End of Day round-up” published about 20:00BST on the site Monday to Thursday (and maybe even Friday if there is a late burst of news).

Why all this coverage? Decisions made at Farnborough tend to have a major impact on the plane you’re sitting in, along with the seat and engine – and the fare you pay – a few years down line from the show.

Keeping up with what everyone doing should provide insight for the future… and what to expect when you get on a plane.
