The 2nd A380 that Malaysia Airlines will be receiving will have a diversion to Farnborough next week as it forms part of the flying display line-up there.
Now we’re aware of the configuration of the plane (8F, 66C, 70Y (upper), 350Y lower) and you would had thought “Why not install some Premium Economy Seating”
Malaysia Airlines decided against it, going for for more two more rows business seats (12 seats) which the airline believes it can sell – and make a better yield overall than a Premium Economy set-up.
What has been done however is control of the seating and allocation where children sit. As we all know, Babies are a no-no in Malaysia Airlines First Class, whilst in Economy, families will be allocated the lower deck until all seats are filled in the upper deck due to concerns that noisy children could disturb business-class passengers seated in front of them.
So, whilst the upper deck economy won’t be “premium”, it will be quieter (unless you’re stuck next to a chatterbox aboard…)
Malaysia Airlines commenced it’s Kuala Lumpur to London Heathrow service on the 1st July (with the return leg on the 2nd July) with it’s first A380, with the other service being a 747. This is due to go daily with the delivery of the 2nd aircraft.
Malaysia Airlines have a total of 6 A380’s on order, with four aircraft arriving this year, and the remaining two in 2013, allowing the airline to retire its fleet of 9 Boeing 747-400’s.
