If you’re in London* for the Olympics – or for any other reason and need some free WiFi with Internet Access (without resorting to a Starbucks, Cafe Nero or Costa Coffee), O2 and Westminster City Council have activated their new WiFi network.
The access points will be free for all, with coverage targeted in the following places:
- Leicester Square
- Parliament Square
- Piccadilly Circus
- Oxford Street
- Trafalgar Square
- Regent Street
Other Westminster Council Areas will be covered in time, with Covent Garden due to follow. O2 will be operating the hotspots free, whilst trying to recover the costs via targeted advertising (and of course, you registering to use the service).
The network itself has been switched on just before the Olympics (and is live today), with the WiFi with Internet Access being kept on
(* = The City of Westminster is part of London, which itself is made up 32 boroughs, The City of Westminster and the City of London. For tourists, Westminster is where you’ll find the West End, Eros, Buckingham Palace, The Houses of Parliament etc, whilst in the City side is more of the business side and is home to The Bank of England, as well as f St Paul’s Cathedral and the Tower of London as well as a few other sights).
