It seems US Airways are trying this innovation thing again, by introducing “Premium Dining” options.
The option, known as “DineFresh” will be avalible in Economy class flying internationally to Europe, the Middle East and South America
There are currently two options on the DineFresh menu:
- Citrus-marinated chicken skewers – This chilled meal includes citrus-marinated chicken skewers on Mediterranean orzo topped with mango chutney, served with lavosh crackers, classic shrimp cocktail, marinated grilled vegetables and Crème Brûlée cheesecake with fresh berries.
- Vegetarian Portobello mushroom tortellini – This chilled vegetarian meal features hearty portobello tortellini marinated in sun-dried tomato pesto, served with Caprese salad, lavosh crackers, olives, a duo of hummus and baba ganoush and turtle cheesecake with fresh berries.
Words and Images – US Airways.
All DineFresh meals are served with wine as part of the meal deal.
And now the kicker. For this wonderful privilege instead of the normal gloop served by US Airways (and comes this is from someone who suffered at the hands of one of their Macaroni Cheese specials*), this will cost you $19.99 and if you want to must be purchased 24 hours prior to your flight.
US Airways will maintain its complementary meals on its long haul services… which is at least one customer orientated thing.
Whilst this is a reasonable option if you want something that might be better than the standard US Airways food, $19.99 seems be on the touch on the high side for my liking considering the cost to put the tray together.
And for those who wonder what I refer to as a “Macaroni Cheese Special” this is a picture of a tray meal I had when I did a mileage run on US:
