In what should be a surprise to no-one, Virgin Atlantic and British Midland International will end their earn/burn relationship.
You will not be able to burn or earn BMI Diamond Club miles on Virgin Atlantic from 1st September 2012.
After this date, you will NOT be able to use BMI miles to redeem on Virgin Atlantic, nor will you be able to earn miles on Virgin Atlantic and dump them in your BMI account.
If you want to make some bookings with your Diamond Club miles you haven’t converted into Avios, you’ve got until 31st August 2012 to get those bookings in and ticketed. All current bookings on made on Virgin Atlantic metal will be honored too.
Note that if you have a booking made by BMI for Virgin Atlantic, you will NOT be able the change it after 1st September 2012, but you will be able to cancel it.
Well – this has been coming for some time (since IAG took over BMI in April) and it leaves the following airlines to redeem on through the Diamond Club programme:
- British Airways
- Qatar
- Jet
- Transaero
As you can see – the list is getting shorter. If these partners don’t meet your needs, it could be time to shift your Diamond Club Miles to Avios – and my simple step by step guide is still available (and is still accurate as I’ve had to transfer some more miles over recently!)

DO you believe Qatar, Jet and Transaero will endeup being Avios partners? Any speculation?
Kevincm says
Honestly… No.
Jet is being wooed by Star.
Transaero will head to Star eventually
and Qatar…. who knows what they’re planning.
