United reveals more of the interior of its new 787

15/08/2012 by Kevincm

As Ethiopian Airlines get used to flying their 787, United Airlines turn is coming up very shortly to fly the new aircraft.

So to celebrate “Changes that you think you might like” with the 787, United have posted a set of pictures on UnitedHub showing off their new aircraft.

Firstly – the beauty shot:

Interestingly, there are no pictures of plain olde economy on the UnitedHub site. Perhaps they are saving that horror for the first passengers who come aboard with cameras.

As has been stated many a time, the seating configuration is:

  • 36 United BusinessFirst configured as 2-2-2
  • 72 United Economy Plus configured as 3-3-3
  • 111 United Economy seats configured as 3-3-3

Well, it’s a new plane to look forward to soon…..

    Probably not enough room for someone with a camera to take a picture in economy….good old United will cramp every seat possible into the space!

    I can’t tell from the pictures, but does this plane have individual air nozzles?

    shame there is no first class.

      It’s a bit of a shame, but considering the length is just about the same as a 767-300ER, it would had been difficult to fit a First Suite without compromising space in the rest of the plane. And as the new United only seems to be going after revenue, this was the fit they’ve gone with.

      Who knows, if United gets the 787-9’s they might fit an F suite in there…

    For the a brand new next gen aircraft those interiors look dated already. Something about the cheap look seat pattern, grey plastic and grey carpets just looks dated.

    United’s First and Business cabins look a look more contemporary than CO’s. United had some dark wood elements and it just looked classier. Shame they went with the CO look

    Solid pattern seats and some nice gold head rests could have looked classy, modern and added some color and pizazz.

    This just looks dated, flat and cheap

    They really need to get rid of this ‘BusinessFirst’ name nonsense.

    @Tim: I agree just a splash of color would help. They gold swoosh on the exterior, why not add an accent inside?

    @Gene It would appear so

    I don’t get the complaints about no F, first off, these are sCO birds, which haven’t had F for a while now, and the long and thin routes these will operate on can’t support F. And back in Y, it is the ~same as the 777s pitchwise, so it’s not like it will be some surprise when people go on there.

    I recently flew on JAL’s 787 and I can answer some of the questions:

    In biz class we had individual air nozzles, not sure about economy, but I’m not sure why that would be different between classes.

    For everyone complaining about no first class, none of the carriers so far have chosen to include a first class cabin, so United isn’t unique in this!

    Air nozzles are a feature that each airline can add or not. I don’t think the 787s will have them; there are are none visible in the pictures.
    United is just going to have BusinessFirst/Economy in the long run so no First class on this plane. Some airlines are going away from having First class these days.
    PapaSmurf, what do you hate about the “BusinessFirst” name?

    @Kerwin
    Actually, if you look closely there are 2 sets of round discs above the seats – 1 set are the lights and the other are the air nozzles.

    I flew on United and Lufthansa this past week. Lufthansa seats were incredibly thin and bare bones. But they were comfortable and looked smart. United had much more plush seating, but everything was so frayed and dilapidated looking. The navy blue look that United has gone to looks more practical than smart. I was thinking that United has become a train line in the sky. Even the flight attendents matronly looking uniforms made them look like they were going to ask me to show my ticket to get it punched through at any time. United needs an image makeover – really badly.
