Japan-China loads suffering due to island disputes

27/09/2012 by Kevincm

Senkaku in Japanese Diaoyu in Chinese and Diaoyutai in Taiwan.  A small set of islands that has caused major trouble in China after controlled by Japan, but are claimed also by China and Taiwan.

Already, there has been impact on the Chinese Mainland with Japanese business attacked. Well it seems as a tag on result has now arrived at the door of the aviation industry.

  • All Nippon Airways   reports  that 40,000 seat reservations were cancelled on flights between Japan and China from September to November period
  • Japan Airlines is suspending some of its daily services and reducing frequencies in response due to “recent irregular changes in travel demand.”
  • Chinese carrier Juneyao Airlines has delayed the opening of its new 4X-weekly Shanghai-Okinawa route to November, which was scheduled to launch Sept. 20.
  • Shanghai-based Spring Airlines cancelled its 10 charter flights to Tottorri, which was to launch Sept. 23

It seems the diplomatic blustering of both sides as well in the protests in China are making passengers think twice before travelling.

Hopefully, loads will pick up soon…
