GOL of Brazil has put a nice tidy order in with Boeing for the purchase of 60 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft.
At US$6 Billion at list prices, GOL has made the largest aircraft order from a single airline in South American history (although… who pays list prices for aircraft is still a question yet to be answered)
GOL CEO Paulo Kakinoff, says
“The decision to order Boeing 737 MAX is in line with our commitment to maintaining a modern and safe fleet that will allow us to sustain our competitive advantage in the long term.”
The actual split of the order has not been disclosed, but looking at what GOL operate – currently Boeing 737-700’s and 737-800’s – it would not be a wild guess to think that GOL will be ordering the equivalents to match the existing aircraft – so Boeing 737-7MAX and 737-8MAX’s.
For Boeing, this is more validation of the 737-MAX design with firm orders of 724 aircraft.
