London City Airport this week celebrated 25 years of operations its location, and has announced one heck of a major infrastructure upgrade.
The upgrade valued at £15 million will involve:
- The refurbishment of the Western Pier, with new departure gates and improved lounge facilities
- re-development of the International Arrivals Hall
- enhancements to baggage handling zones.
Work on these improvements will commence in early 2013.
London City Airport has increased its scope over the years. In its first year of operation four airlines offered flights to three destinations – Brussels, Paris and Plymouth.
Today, London City Airport operates to 42 destinations with 10 operators, and the stunningly good British Airways London City Club World service, handling over 70,000 flights per year, with permission to increase to 120,000 flights.
I’ve had some great experiences at London City Airport. See:
