Iberia unions call off Strike Action

11/12/2012 by Kevincm

In a bit of good news as we head towards the Christmas travel season, the unions that represent staff for Iberia have called off their planned strike action.

The action that was meant to take place on:

  • 14th December
  • 17th December
  • 18th December
  • 19th  December
  • 20th December
  • 21st December

The unions have called off this actions as they do not wish to harm passegners in the run up to the Christmas break.

However, this is just a suspension sadly as Iberia and its unions have failed to agree a way forward – strikes in 2013 will happen unless both sides come to an arrangement. .

Iberia management says:

“Iberia hopes that in the future the possibilities of dialogue and negotiations will be exhausted before any new strikes are called since they inflict great harm on the company and its customers”

“Iberia is pleased that its customers may now look forward to travelling without problems, though it regrets the damage already caused to company’s public image and to its business.”

We can hope that all will be well in the long run, but with 4500 jobs for the cut and the beginnings of a route restructuring, I have a nasty feeling this isn’t over by a long shot….
