Etihad buddies up further with… Garuda Indonesia

26/02/2013 by Kevincm

Another day, another Etihad partnership update it seems.

This time, Etihad and Garuda Indonesia will be adding codeshares, and adding earn and burn between the two airlines frequent flyer programmes. themselves.

Garuda Indonesia will be adding Etihad’s EY flight code on routes from Jakarta to:

  • Amsterdam via Abu Dhabi
  • Balikpapan
  • Denpasar Bali
  • Makassar
  • Manado
  • Perth
  • Singapore

Meanwhile in Etihad is adding Garuda’s GA code to the following routes from Abu Dhabi:

  • Bahrain
  • Brussels
  • Dusseldorf
  • Frankfurt
  • Munich

On the ground, lounge reciprocity will available too, whilst frequent flyers will be happy with the ability to earn more miles.

If you’re a member of  Etihad Guest and Garuda Frequent Flyer, you’ll be able to earn miles on all the codeshare service. Plans are afoot to introduce mileage earning and burning between the two airlines which should include both of the airlines networks.

What did I say about “The Etihad Alliance”? It’s looking more and more like one each day…

Garuda needs to ink up an agreement with Delta so I can start using them before they officially join SkyTeam next year.

To be honest, I’m seeing Etihad building up its own alliance – based on some of the membership of SkyTeam.

      Heck they’ve got 42 partners already… That’s bigger than Star Alliance…
