Samoa Air isn’t that bigger carrier if I’m honest – covering American Samoa routes. However, it has introduced a new policy that will be watched by some airlines – paying by weight
Now, we’re used on some airlines to pay by weight of your luggage – but Samoa Air puts a new spin on this: the weight of your luggage and your personal weight.
Rather than pay for a seat, passengers pay a fixed price per kilogram, which varies depending on the route length.
Air Samoa’s rates range from $1 to around $4.16 per kilogram.
It’s an interesting concept as airlines run on weights and not seats, which boils down to how much fuel needed – and for some airlines this could be a new surcharge that would create utter havoc – imagine all the airports full of scales at certain airports, and people who are sensitive to their weight (be it over or under).
Although it could convince some people to go on a diet before flying..
It’s about time.
Good. Make the fatties pay more
