UK Regional carrier FlyBe is trying a new tactic – Fare Locking.
If you’re looking at flights, but have yet to formalise anything, you can either spend £5 for a group or £1.99 per sector to hold a price for 24 hours. This will allow you formalise travellers. If you do not take up the farelock, the fee will be refunded.
The fares are included are their Essentials and New Economy – not their Plus fares
A big thing to note that the fare lock does not reduce the cost of the ticket. It also does not guarantee changes to ticket.
For once if you want to take advantage , look at the FAQ‘s an T&C‘s with this because there are a fair few exclusions. including the main notes:
- 24 hour from when you click to lock it
- Excudes flights which departs 14 days before first day of travel
- Excludes some Loganair flights from Glasgow,
- Excludes Air France codeshares
- Excludes Rewards4All award bookings
It’s great that a small airline has taken this up in the UK, and hopefully this can spread through to the larger airlines in Europe providing they can monetise this. For the traveller who’s got a group of people and have trouble herding them together – this could really be a boon.
