Another breaking news story today is that a Pakistan International Airlines aircraft has diverted from its journey to Manchester to Stansted Airport.
Flight PL709 with 297 passengers – operated by a Boeing 777 – from Lahore was brought to Stanstead under fighter escort by two Royal Air Force Typhoon fighters, where it landed safely and taxied away from the terminal area.
A mid-air alert was raised, being the cause of the diversion and the calling of the RAF into the incident.
The incident occurred around 10 minutes to landing.
An Essex Police spokeswoman has said:
“An incident has occurred on an aircraft. Police and partners are responding.”
PIA confirm the plane has landed, but they do not have communications with the pilot.
Two men – British Nationals aged 31 and 40 – have been arrested by Essex police for “endangerment of an aircraft”
