French ATC Traffic Strike – Expect delays and Cancellations

11/06/2013 by Kevincm

It’s closing in on the summertime, so it means someone has to go out on strike. This time, it’s the French Air Traffic controllers.

The strike is set to begin Tuesday 06:00CET and end on Friday 05:59CET – a 72 hour strike action.

DGAG – the French Civil Aviation Authority has requested carriers cut their services by 50% at the following airports:

– Bordeaux
– Lyon
– Marseille
– Nice
– Paris (all airports)
– Toulouse

This of course will impact on carriers serving France during these dates

A selection of who’s cancelling what:

– Air France will be planning changes – see http://www.airfrance.com
– British Airways will cancel 90 out of 120 services https://lfn.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/4715
– EasyJet will cancel 128 flights each day, see http://easyjet.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/3970
– FlyBe will be affected, but hasn’t released how. See http://www.flybe.com/disruption/updates/, and check with your flight number
– Ryanair is cancelling a substaial amount of services – see http://www.ryanair.com/en/notices/gops/130708-FRENCH_STRIKE_23_EN-GB

Other carriers will be cancelling both Long and Short Haul flights – check with your operator.

Obviously, it goes without saying that you should be checking your bookings now, and expecting cancellations along route.

For those of you within Europe, it could be worth seeing what space is available on Eurostar or Thalys, and rebook accordingly if getting a seat on a plane is going to be a major challenge….

And if you want a challenge, you can also entertain draw for a GoGo Internet voucher – see http://economyclassandbeyond.boardingarea.com/2013/06/10/win-a-gogo-inflight-internet-voucher/ for your chance to win!
