Some time ago, Air India ran a Delhi – Birmingham – Toronto service, that was curtailed as Air India wished to retain slots at Heathrow.
Well, it seems Air India is returning to Birmingham with the confirmed launch of Delhi to Birmingham service, which will be operated with Boeing 787 aircraft.
The schedule looks a bit like this:
AI113 DEPART DEL 13:30 ARRIVE BHX 18:00 788 x357 AI114 DEPART BHX 21:30 ARRIVE DEL 10:05+1 788 x357 Commecences: 1st August 2013 Service operates Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday Booked Equipment: Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner
For Birmingham – which has a large Indian community – this will be a welcome return of Air India providing a direct link as opposed to hiking down to London Heathrow. It also represents a first for Birmingham Airport – as this will be the first airline to operate a Boeing 787 Dreamliner to and from the airport (beating Thomson).
Booking is open for the flights with some reasonable fares (£524 return… with £240 of it as YQ….).
Again – another useful link that shows there is life beyond Heathrow….

That’s great news for Birmingham Airport!
I look forward to seeing the Dreamliner fly past my house on approach 😉

I may lampoon BHX a fair bit (along with the postage stamp they call a runway), but I can see they’re trying their best – and more importantly, getting routes as a result.
Still. It’ll make interesting spotting at BHX…
… And at good to see another Birmingham based reader!
