With the protests in Egypt, the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office has modified its travel advice for travel advice:
The FCO recommends against all but essential travel to Egypt – except for the resorts on the Red Sea in South Sinai and those resorts on the Egyptian mainland in Red Sea area.
The FCO recommends British Nationals already in Egypt in areas where we advise against all but essential travel should consider whether they have a pressing need to remain (such as Cairo). Those in these areas should keep a low profile and avoid crowds – whilst paying attention to your personal safety.
Finally, if you need to transit through Cairo Airport, there should be no airport – providing you don’t leave the grounds of the facility.
The full advice is at https://www.gov.uk/government/news/change-to-uk-travel-advice-for-egypt, and is normally an indicator to travel or not. Whilst the situation is tense, keep an eye on what’s going on outside. Tour companies are still sending out groups to Red Sea areas, although you may wish to check with your operator if you are going to be based in the Cairo area.
Stay safe out there!
