All Nippon Airlines is to bolster its long haul fleet, by adding a further three Boeing 777-300ER aircraft to its fleet.
The three aircraft will added to the feet from 2015 as more slots come up for grabs at Tokyo Narita and Haneda airports, allowing more routes to be operated.
In addition, ANA Cargo will take on a 767-300F (Freighter) to cope with extra demand.
Meanwhile, this was announced when ANA Holdings (the parent company of All Nippon Airlines) took a major quarterly loss of approximately US$67 million (or 6.6Billion Yen), with high fuel costs due to the weak Japanese Yen and the Boeing 787 grounding, which impacted on ANA’s fleet.
Fuel costs alone were up 9 Billion Yen.
Things haven’t gone too well for ANA this year, with the 787 groundings, the dissolving of the AirAsia Japan partnership with Air Asia and now these losses.
A new company will be formed to manage the existing AirAsia Japan routes and expand them (It’s worth noting ANA has shares in Peach, and also AirDo – both low-cost companies…).
It’s a tough year out there so far in earnings, and whilst ANA has confidence it will make a full year profit, with some factors against them like the price of fuel… it could be very tough indeed..
