WestJet looks to the 737MAX for its new fleet

29/08/2013 by Kevincm

WestJet are looking to expand the fleet with them signing a letter of intent to order Boeing 737MAX aircraft.

The order will be split between two of the aircraft in the family:
– 25 Boeing 737 MAX 7
– 40 Boeing 737 MAX 8

Subject to the Letter of Intent being converted into an order, aircraft will begin delivery from September 2017.

WestJet is pretty much a solid Boeing operator, with

– 13 Boeing 737-600s
– 69 Boeing 737-700s
– 31 Boeing 737-800s

and a small smattering of Bombardier Dash8s.

Part of the order will involve swapping fifteen delivery slots that are set for Boeing 737NG aircraft for 737 MAXs.

The final order and purchase agreement is set for the end of September.

For WestJet these aircraft represent a great chance to expand, and also remove some its older 737NG’s (especially the low capacity 737-600s), and should present some great products for the passenger in years they’re rolled out.
