In a move that almost looks match for match like Germanwings recent fare restructuring, Iberia is to restructure its Spanish Domestic services and European Economy Fares.
So what are we looking at?
– Basic: Cheapest Fare, Hand baggage only, No pre-assigned seats, no change in ticket
– Classic: 1 piece of hold luggage, pre-assignable seating, change in ticket for a fee
– Flexible: As Classic, with Priority boarding and changes/refunds available
These new fares have been floating around since 7th September, and are available for booking across all Iberia short haul services operated by Iberia, Iberia Express and Air Nostrum.
In many ways this also reflects what British Airways is doing with the launch of Hand Baggage Only, Standard, Semi-Flexible and Flexible Fares at Heathrow, Gatwick and City, and the big airlines trying to convince those who have been fed on a diet of “low cost” fares from the Low Cost Carriers that they are still a viable alternative.
If you do consider the Basic fare, just ensure you don’t need any luggage on your return leg. It could work out pricey….
