Scoot to Scoot over to Hong Kong

26/09/2013 by Kevincm

Scoot – the long haul low cost operation of Singapore Airlines – is to launch a service to Hong Kong.

Initially the service will operate 5 days a week before going daily at a later date.

Timings are slightly variable, and are listed below

Between 15th November 2013 and 11th December 2013

TZ220 DEPART SIN 01:30 ARRIVE HKG 05:25 Operates Wednesday, Friday, Sunday
TZ220 DEPART SIN 01:55 ARRIVE HKG 05:45 Operates Monday, Tuesday

TZ221 DEPART HKG 06:50 ARRIVE SIN 10:35 Operates Wednesday, Friday, Sunday
TZ221 DEPART HKG 07:10 ARRIVE SIN 10:55 Operates Monday, Saturday

From 12th December 2013

TZ220 DEPART SIN 01:30 ARRIVE HKG 05:25 Operates Wednesday, Friday, Sunday
TZ220 DEPART SIN 01:50 ARRIVE HKG 05:45 Operates Tuesday, Thursday
TZ220 DEPART SIN 01:55 ARRIVE HKG 05:45 Operates Monday, Saturday

TZ221 DEPART HKG 06:50 ARRIVE SIN 10:35 Operates Wednesday, Friday, Sunday
TZ221 DEPART HKG 07:10 ARRIVE SIN 10:55 Operates Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday

Operates: See above.
Booked Equipment: Boeing 777-200 "Scoot" configuration

Scoot operate a low cost model, offering 4 fares – Fly, FlyBag, FlyBagEat aand ScootBiz in the following configuration

– Economy (Fly) class seats will be a 31″ seat pitch, but the 777 will be crammed into a 3-4-3 layout (with varying pitch through the cabin).
– Business (ScootBiz) class seats will be in a 38″ seat pitch, and configured in an equally tight 2-4-2 layout.

Whilst a single extra service between the two cities a day isn’t going to spark a fare war, there is plenty of scope on this route as it is contested by

– Cathay Pacific
– Jetstar Asia
– Singapore Airlines
– Tiger Airways
– United

And yes, you read that right. Singapore Airlines has three fingers in the route pie – with Singapore Airlines and Tiger Airways contesting traffic with Scoot.

Whilst one extra service won’t make a difference between the two cities, if it starts turning into two or three services a day, this could mark a very interesting fight in the SIN-HKG Market…

One thing that isn’t low cost is my draw for a Lufthansa First Class Duck!
