United prepares Summer 2014 changes

16/10/2013 by Kevincm

It seems that United Airlines is preparing a big switch – around for the Summer 2014 season, with services from Newark to Europe having major changes according to Airline Routes http://airlineroute.net/2013/10/12/ua-s14update2/

There is some serious re-gauging of routes, with 757-200’s swapped for 767-300ER’s and 777s

Routes affected include:

  • Newark – Amsterdam goes from a 757-200(exCO) to a 767-300ER(exUA) – Limited Dates
  • Newark – Berlin Tegel goes from a 757-200(exCO) to a 767-300ER(exUA) – Limited Dates
  • Newark – Brussels goes is to be operated with a 777-200ER(exUA) for entire Summer season
  • Newark – Frankfurt goes from a 777-200ER(exUA) to a 767-400(exCO) with variable dates
  • Newark – Geneva goes from a 767-300ER(exUA) to 767-400ER(exCO)
  • Newark – London Heathrow switches out 757-200(exCO) to 4 daily 767 sand 1 daily 777. (767-300ER – exUA)

Also:

  • Chicago – Munich goes from a 767-300ER(exUA) to 777-200ER (exUA)
  • Houston – Frankfurt goes from 777-200ER(exCO) to  767-300ER(exUA

It’s important to note these changes as there are a lot of differences between the old Continental products and United products as they strive to build one airline.

Full details and timings on Airline Routes http://airlineroute.net/2013/10/12/ua-s14update2/, but if you’re planning your redemptions for 2014, this could help you along the way… and work out which route to go for… or not.

Some nice upgrades there! Somewhat surprised to see the downgrades to FRA though – any thoughts as to what is driving that?

wonder where all those 752s are going to … my hopes would be plowing EWR-SFO and EWR-LAX

Gotta agree the upgrades are nice. However being based between BDL and PVD, I hate the short hop down to JFK/EWR/LGA

What will really change between a 767-300 (ua) to a 767-400 (co)?

    @patricia,
I had the same exact thought, I guess the almost hourly EWR-LAX/SFO service wasn’t enough to drive VX out of the market, but putting a vastly superior product on those flights should help pull some high yield clients from VX.

The products aren’t that different, EWR-FRA is an upgrade, but that’s about it.
