There is one heck of a weather system moving into the United Kingdom at the moment, with the main storm due to hit between Sunday night and Monday.
The Met Office has issued an amber alert for high winds in:
- Southern Wales
- Southern England
- The Midlands
- East of England
- London
- South East
The warning also covers warnings about heavy rain, damage and winds at 80 mph (120 kph) or higher.
There is travel disruption already as:
- Brittany Ferries have cancelled two services on Sunday
- Services between Penzance and the Isle of Scilly have been cancelled Monday
- Sailings between the UK and Channel Islands are also impacted too.
British Airways has already advised the following:
A severe weather warning has been issued for the UK on Monday 28 October. As it is expected to bring heavy rain and high winds, we anticipate some flights to and from the UK and transport links to UK airports may be affected. We apologise in advance for any inconvience caused but the safety of our customers is our top priority.
EasyJet state:
The UK Met Office are forecasting potential strong winds for the South of England from Sunday evening into Monday mid-morning. We are taking proactive measures to minimise disruption, however would like to warn passengers in advance that there could be disruption as a result of these forecasted weather conditions. We strongly advise that customers allow extra time for their journeys to the airport, check the status of your flight before leaving and monitor local weather forecasts.
Virgin Atlantic also note:
There are reports of strong winds and heavy rain across parts of Wales and Southern England on Monday 28 October, there is no certainty about the timing, path, or extent of the storm at this stage. We are monitoring the weather forecast however at this time we are planning to operate our full flying programme.
Please check Flight Status for the latest information on all our flight schedules before you travel to the airport. In addition UK mobile phone users can update your mobile phone details in My Booking in order for us to send text messages in the event of any significant disruption.
We advise all passengers to plan their journey to and from London Heathrow and Gatwick in advance, leave plenty of time and take extra care on the roads.
The situation represents a very fluid situation as the weather system develops, and the impact becomes known properly. For now, if you are travelling on Sunday or Monday, check with your airline if your flight is operating, and allow extra time to get to the airport.
And – please keep safe.
