If you’re jumping for joy that Qatar Airways has joined oneworld, there could be more reasons to if you’re needing more miles (or whatever your mileage currency is called).
Qatar Airways is offering DOUBLE MILES on all routes for two and a half months. Collection of the doubler miles begins on 15th November 2013, and ends 31st January 2014.
There are three important caveats though:
- You cannot earn double miles on flights during the festive season from 20th December 2013 to 5th January
- Cathay Pacific Marco Polo Club members have one less week, with their double-miles offer ending on the 24th January 2014.
- If you’re remotely thinking of doing this trip in economy… DON’T. Unless you’re flying full fare (Y and B ticket classes), the earning potential can be… limited (see Lucky’s post on how bad it is for AA http://boardingarea.com/onemileatatime/2013/10/29/qatar-airways-now-oneworld-member-airline/, BA’s is just as bad with Y,B earning 100%, G earning 50% and everything else – , L, V,S,N,T,Q, and O – earning a measly 25%).
If you can find the right business or first class fare to make it work, this can be very profitable. However, with an economy ticket… I’d be grateful for more 50% earning.
25% earning is very Lufthansa-like… and that’s not meant in a nice way.
