It seems the hurt that FlyBe is going through is now being reflected in their route network, with services from Cardiff to Paris and Glasgow to be up for axe.
Services will be withdrawn from 19th January, with the exception of special Rugby flights due to be operated between 20th to 24th February 2014.
Those with tickets for flights after that date will have their money refunded.
Service between Cardiff to Belfast City, Edinburgh and Jersey will maintained by FlyBe, as well as the winter ski services to
to Geneva, Lyon, Chambray and Grenoble.
For Cardiff airport, this isn’t good news as it competes with Bristol for traffic. Whilst the airport is seeking a replacement operator to replace FlyBe on these services, which currently load 46,000 passengers per year to Glasgow and 29,000 to Paris.
The trick with the numbers above is to make the route profitable, whilst using the right equipment. With only a few “regional” airlines in the UK, it could be tough for any airline to make the routes pay after taxes and charges are accounted for….
