Three UK breaks the pack on International roaming – more countries added including the USA

04/12/2013 by Kevincm

Three UK in welcome news to those who roam back and forth, has broken from the pack of UK phone companies, allowing users to use their UK allowance of data, texts in various countries.

These now include:

Austria
Australia
Denmark
Hong Kong
Indonesia
Italy
Macau
Republic of Ireland
Sri Lanka
Sweden
United States of America.

Some of these are very big (Three have offered “Feel Like Home” roaming to Hong Kong, Australia and others for some time). The new countries added to the list are: Indonesia, Macau, Sri Lanka and USA,

The big news here is the addition of the United States of America will be allowed.

For those who travel even once or twice to the USA, this is a big boon, as they will no longer be crippled with bill shock or horrendous roaming fees for data, voice and SMS traffic.

Currently, traffic costs vary for £25/5mb on Vodafone UK, with other operates charging £7-8 a Mb of traffic. Considering that smartphones are the order of the day, these can rack up considerable bills if data roaming is left on.

Whilst lower roaming bills through the European Union are a reality – with the EU trying to scrap roaming costs all together, this is welcome news for those of us who leave EU borders.

This applies to Pay Monthly contracts, with Pay As You Go customers on different rates.
