Service Reduction for Emirates in May – July

01/01/2014 by Kevincm

As Dubai International Airport will be resurfacing one of its runways, during May to July, carriers are being asked to cut back route. This even impacts their largest carrier – Emirates.

The first wave was confirmed in June last year, but it seems lots more routes are on the suspension list over the period.  The newest update takes aim at  Asia and European routes

  • Dubai – Ho Chi Minh reduces from 7 services to 5 weekly
  • Dubai – Mauritius reduces from 14 services to 13 weekly, with a dip to 12 services during July
  • Dubai – Phuket reduces from 7  services to 6 weekly
  • Dubai – St. Petersburg  reduces from 7 services to 6 weekly
  • Dubai – Zurich  reduces from 14 services to 13 weekly

The changes go into effect from 1st May to 20th July.

This tags onto the main list… which is getting substantial in size (30 routes now 35 routes). Nearly all major destinations on the Emirates map will have capacity cuts during this work – some featuring one service dropped a day, some with massive hits (for example the Dubai to Doha shuttle drops from 42 services a week to 20 services a week, the Dubai-Bangkok services drops from six flights a day to four flights).

Whilst these 35 routes have been confirmed as changes, the fact is more changes are entirely likely as we close in on the major resurfacing work at Dubai International. Other carriers who fly into Dubai International will also be looking at changes to flights to as they have been asked to reduce flights.

Expect fun as the ramp up to the resurfacing hits one of the worlds major hubs…
