EVA Air strengthens services to Canada, adds extra frequencies

08/01/2014 by Kevincm

EVA Air (the airline of Hello Kitty Fame), is strengthening its services to Canada, with both Toronto and Vancouver reviving an extra service a week to Taipei Taoyan.

The new schedule looks like this:

Taipei Taoyuan – Vancouver
BR010 DEPART TPE 23:55 ARRIVE YVR 19:40 Monday, Wednesday,
                                          Friday and Saturday
BR009 DEPART YVR 02:20 ARRIVE TPE 05:10+1 Monday, Tuesday,
                                          Thursday, Sunday

Strengthened service begins: 2nd June 2014
Booked Equipment: Boeing 747-400

Taipei Taoyuan – Toronto
BR036 DEPART TPE 18:40 ARRIVE YYZ 2050 Monday, Tuesday,
                                          Thursday, Saturday
BR035 DEPART YYZ 01:45 ARRIVE TPE 04:30+1 Tuesday, Wednesday,
                                          Friday, Sunday

Strengthened service begins: 10th June 2014
Booked Equipment: Boeing 777-300ER

An extra service a week is always helpful, and a good sign that the EVA Air is expecting steady growth on these routes.

Sadly, these routes won’t get Hello Kitty Jets, and Vancouver will have the slightly older (but none too shabby) Boeing 747-400.

For those seeking to connect between Canada and Taiwan – and beyond, whilst avoiding some of the traditional airlines, this is a lovely little option that’s opening up.

Booking space and redemption space appears open to – could be worth a look….

Not sure why you are saying “slightly older, not too shabby” 747-400. It IS a lot older and quite shabby with BR, because BR’s 744PAX are still using the Premium Laurel angle flat C seats ! At this date, horizontal flat seats in C are a MUST, I mean even the Americans carriers like UA and DL all have them. BR however only have the horizontal flat seat Royal Laurel on their 77W.

So I would rather advice anyone if you are planning to using your miles or actually paying C class, avoid BR at all cost for YVR-TPE ! I would also assume the award space would be wide open for this route as nobody like that seat ! FYI, BR’s Premium Laurel C seat is 2+2 at the nose, 2+2+2 after door 1, it would be really hard to get out of you sit by the window when your seatmate is in full recline position.

welcome to YVR, where tons of carriers send their older less competitive configs to (cuz they know the rest of the competition is not that much better either)

For a small town of less than 2.5M people, YVR should be grateful for the immense amount of international service it gets.

You wrote Boeing 777-400 instead of Boeing 747-400

I’m sure you meant 747-400 instead of 777-400

and last line “to” should be “too”

I’d take EVA 77W/77N anyday, and 747 upper deck Y (but not J)

Agree. Right now YVR suffers (as does SEA) from poor equipment ie: B744 on BR. But also with NH’s new service using their woeful B763 (like JL). The problem is that MU,CI,CA also use old seats. A very sad state of affairs, but hopefully this will change within the next couple of years.
